In basketball the triple threat position is used to get you in position to pass, shoot or drive. It also helps you see the floor, your teammates and helps you see the defense.

When you want to be successful in your business, you can utilize the Triple Threat position. This will enable you to identify who you’re passing too, where you need to aim and how to drive it in to win.

Just like receiving a scouting report that reveals the players every move before the big game, your company needs to identify who their targets are by doing an extensive analysis on them. Then, you will determine where to aim in order to get the most results.

There are several databases where you can access company and contact information based on industry, title, location, etc. The List and D&B reports are just a couple, but for better results ask a few of your clients what publications or websites they visit daily or monthly. Research and find out if your main targets are speaking on any panels or attending any local events. It’s always best to try and meet your target and then follow up with them after an event.

Get to know your target, establish a relationship and then build one. Soon enough, they will know who you are, what you offer and how to get a hold of you when they need something. Score!

Follow the Yellow Brick Road of the ever expanding Social Media network and you’ll be on the path to finding your way into homes and offices everywhere.

Facebook is one of the leading social media networks with more than 350 million active users, where 50% of them log on daily and the fastest growing demographic is 35 years and older. The average user has 130 friends and more than 8 billion minutes are spent on FB each day (worldwide). That is a lot of people snooping around in other peoples profiles and checking out what they’re “friends” are up too.

That is why it is imperative to have a presence on FB for your business. Don’t be intimidated by how to create a FB page or group. It is very simple. Click here to see how www.meetyourtargets.com/blog/?p=12 You see, when ever someone becomes a “fan” of your page ALL their friends see it too. Viral marketing is one of the best ways to spread the word about your company and by simply updating your FB wall every week, you’ll spread the word and gain more exposure… FREE exposure!

Twitter is the fastest growing member community with more than 7 million Twitterers (a.k.a. Tweeters or Tweet-ettes). The largest age group on Twitter is 35-49, comprising almost 42% of the site’s audience.

O.k., I must admit that I follow Ellen DeGeneres on Twitter. She has close to 4 million followers and gives meaning behind marketing on Twitter. She has contests and plays games with her followers. She’ll be traveling in different parts of the country and will Tweet for Alabama to stay tuned because she has some exciting news coming up. Then, when she gets there she’ll Tweet clues as to where prizes are hidden. She also uses it to promote upcoming shows or get questions from followers to ask guests she’ll be interviewing on her show. She’s interactive and engaged. She’s inside people’s homes and connected to them and they feel connected to her.

For your business you can tweet to keep people up to date on your latest news, create a fun contest or link to your blog or website. It’s a great way to stay connected and reach out to your followers. Make sure you have a link to your Twitter page through your website and FB page.

Mashable www.mashable.com recently ran a faceoff between the two leading blog platforms, WordPress and Typepad. The winner?? With more than 4,000 votes from bloggers everywhere, WordPress www.wordpress.com swept the numbers leading with 87% of the votes.

Why do you want to blog? Fresh content, become an expert in your field, keep people informed on your company and/or products and keep an ongoing relationship with both your prospects and your clients.

Many people feel that a blog is too much work, but it’s not. Here are a few tricks to make it easy for you to keep fresh content on your blog.

1) Create a “blog idea folder” to keep on your desk or just create a folder on your desktop to dump ideas into.

2) Build content from your day to day activities and conversations. Every time you read an article or have an interesting conversation with someone regarding your industry, jot it down and add it to your folder or even rip the page out of the newspaper or magazine.

3) Pick a day every week or every other week, depending on your time, to blog. Grab an idea out of your folder and have a quick conversation about it on your blog.

4) It’s o.k. to keep it short and simple. Maybe a summary of what you read in 1-4 sentences and then link to the article.

5) If you have insight into something that you want to share, go for it.

6) Company news? Blog it. New hires? Blog it. Anything going on within your company? Blog it.

Here’s the good news you can sync all three of these together. Use the content you write on your blog and post it on your Facebook wall, then set up the application on your FB page to automatically link all your postings to your Twitter. (read this post to learn how to do that: www.meetyourtargets.com/blog/?p=23

If you blog, that blog can live on your FB wall and can have a link on Twitter. Beautiful

If you’re thinking about marketing your company on Facebook (FB), you have two different options, create a FB Page or create a FB Group. It can get pretty confusing to know which one to use and how to set it up, so hopefully the following will help guide you to making the right decision based on your company/product and needs.

The first option is a FB Page, which is similar to a normal profile. Pages are distinct presences, separate from user profiles, and optimized for an organization’s needs to communicate, distribute information/content, engage their fans, and capture new audiences virally through their fan’s recommendations to their friends. They are designed to be a media rich, valuable presence for any business or brand. Pages have two walls, one of what the Page owner writes, and one just for fans to write their own messages. Like a normal FB profile, Pages have tabs that uncover more information.

A Page is generally better for a long-term relationship with your fans, readers or customers. This is a great option for those that want to interact with their fans or customers without having them connected to a personal account, and have a need to exceed FB’s 5,000 friend cap.

Benefits:

Fan Pages get indexed by Google, so search engines can find them

You can see which Pages your friends are fans of via the “info” tab on their profile

They can be viewed by non Facebook members

Provide analysis in terms of users, time online, demographics, etc.

To create a Facebook Fan Page: www.facebook.com/pages/create.php

Your second option is to create a FB Group. A Group is great for organizing on a personal level and for smaller scale interaction around a cause. They are generally better for hosting a (quick) active discussion and attracting quick attention. You can set joint permissions on groups so that they are either open to anyone, closed (where users must get admin approval to join) or secret (invite only). Groups have admins that manage the group, approve applicants or invite others to join. Admins can also appoint “officers” who are nominally in charge.

Benefits:

You’re allowed to send out “bulk invite” (you can easily invite all your friends to join the group while with pages you will be forced to drop some invites manually)

Better for viral marketing, meaning that any group member can also send bulk invites to the friends of his.

To create a Group Page: www.facebook.com/groups/create.php

Increased sales through better timing by anticipating needs based on historic trends

Identifying needs more effectively by understanding specific customer requirements

Cross-selling of other products by highlighting and suggesting alternatives or enhancements

Identifying which of your customers are profitable and which are not

This can lead to better marketing of your products or services by focusing on:

Effective targeted marketing communications aimed specifically at customer needs

A more personal approach and the development of new or improved products and services in order to win more business in the future

Ultimately this could lead to:

Enhanced customer satisfaction and retention, ensuring that your good reputation in the marketplace continues to grow

Increased value from your existing customers and reduced costs associated with supporting and servicing them, increasing your overall efficiency and reducing total cost of sales

Improved profitability by focusing on the most profitable customers and dealing with the unprofitable in more cost effective ways

Once your business starts to look after its existing customers effectively, efforts can be concentrated on finding new customers and expanding your market. The more you know about your customers, the easier it is to identify new prospects and increase your customer base.

The Business Dictionary defines Customer Relationship Management (CRM) as methods that companies use to interact with customers that are aimed at identifying, targeting, acquiring, and retaining the best mix of customers. CRM helps in profling prospects, understanding their needs, and in building relationships with them by providing the most-suitable products and a very high level of customer service. It integrates back and front office systems to create a database of customer contacts, purchases, information requested, technical support, etc. This database helps the company in presenting a unified-face to its customers, and improve the quality of the relationship.

There are so many companies that have a database of contacts that they don’t know how to organize. Some companies have multiple lists that they juggle from excel spreadsheets to their Outlook contacts. One simple way to manage all of your contacts and organize them into a system that will work for marketing and business development is to upload them all into a CRM platform. There are many providers that offer platforms, but in all the years that I’ve been helping clients manage their databases, I have found that Salesforce is a more user friendly platform to utilize.

Just think, you could pull lists by industry, title or product. You can get really specific and categorize what your clients have purchased so you know what to up sell them and you can pull pipeline reports and build custom reporting. This database also allows everyone on your team to have access to notes, bids and conversations with the client so that everyone is on the same page.
